Preparing for CCHS Annual Silent Auction
You can help support a major fundraising
effort to build a covered, outdoor area to provide shelter and extra instructional space. Please join the parent committee and staff by helping:
- Mark your calendar for Wednesday, March 24, 2010 from 6:30 - 9:00.
- Download this letter.
- Approach businesses you frequent, using this letter to introduce the silent auction and to ask for a donation.
- Clean out your closets or consider a donation you would like to provide.
- Provide a copy of the letter (if wanted) and bring one to the Cypress office with the donation.
Your help is critical. Please join us at the February 10 parent meeting, and access information from the parent site.
Cypress in the News
The Santa Cruz Sentinel recently reported on several newsworthy people in our community:
- Our own Tie Club has donated $550 worth of gift cards to CASA of Santa Cruz County. (Noted in the middle of the article).
- Jessica Beauchesne, from the Cypress class of 2008, has completed training and is awaiting her first AmeriCorps assignment. (Noted in the Honors section toward the bottom of the article).

- Social Studies teacher Travis Parker was one of ten
local educators nominated for California League of High Schools Educator of the Year for the Central Coast. He was honored at a ceremony at the Chaminade December 10. Congratulations Travis! View the article.
Students, Teachers are Standing By For Extra Help and Guidance
The end of the semester is soon! If you need extra help in any area, please note that every Friday, staff is usually available after 12:45 to assist with comprehension, review, make-ups,and the general guidance that comes from a small, community-based school like Cypress.
Parents and students, these are times to learn to advocate for yourself in a safe, truly caring place. Talk to your teacher! Arrange time to meet to address those areas that will make a difference in "getting it" or not!
Smart Moves, Smart Choices
From th
e National Assn. of School Nurses comes a program called "Smart Moves, Smart Choices," featuring free videos to educate youth and parents about the risks of prescription drub abuse. It's a four part video series available through an online resource called the.Medic; each is accompanied by science and language arts curriculum.
We hope you find in informative, worthwhile, and that it leads to some discussion around this issue.
